Our Heritage in Norway

Constellation’s leading position in the Norwegian cold storage market originated from its acquisition of Glacio

Glacio was founded in 1991 as K&S Thermotransport by Ole Henrik Karlsen and Thor Syverstad in Eastern Norway. Starting from serving as the sole distributor of groceries from Norwegian mass-market food producer, Gilde, in Oslo and other cities, the company grew rapidly.

2004 saw the company open their first cold store in the small town of Rakkestad, offering blast freezing and tempering from the outset. The move was driven by strong customer demand, which continued and allowed Glacio to expand the facility in 2007.

A second site in the port city of Fredrikstad was opened in 2006 to support the strong trade of frozen and refrigerated products through the port.

Following Constellation’s acquisition, an expansion to the facility at Rakkestad was completed in 2020, adding 14,440 pallet positions and making it the largest public cold store in Norway.

Constellation has continued to invest significantly in the Norwegian business, with addition of 2MW of solar panels across both sites in 2023. The company has also developed a new state-of-the-art 13,000 pallet facility in Tønsberg, opening in 2024.

Constellation has a strong pipeline of further investment plans in Norway in the near future, which will enable the continued rapid growth of the business to meet our customers’ ambitions.
