Constellation has been a player in the Swedish market since 2021, following its acquisition of Göteborgs Fryshus
In 1726, the first slaughterhouse was built in Gothenburg and it was located between Kronobageriet and Norra Hamngatan. After almost 200 years and a fire, the city council in Gothenburg on May 30, 1901, designated the Marieholm estate, located in the suburb of Gamlestaden, as an area for a new slaughterhouse. Otto L. Dymling was appointed as the architect. The construction work was complete in 1905, with a total of 24 new buildings in the area. The slaughterhouse was state-of-the-art for its time, however the industry declined in the area and activities stopped in 1967.
Göteborgs Fryshus was founded in 1987 by Bengt Simberg. The firm occupied the site of a disused slaughterhouse (Slakthuset) for its first cold store. The company’s focus on building long-term relationships with its customers allowed it to build a reputation for excellent customer service. The firm later opened its second site in Storås. In 2014 the business was sold to Jan Bergqvist and Thomas Nydèn.
Constellation has a strong pipeline of investment plans in Sweden in the near future, which will enable the continued rapid growth of the business to meet our customers’ ambitions.
